Other Projects in the Community

El Lagartillo is the home of the theatre group Capullo, the only rural theatre group in Nicaragua, boasting its own cultural house in the village.

There is also the Higueron reforestation project and its tree nursery backed by the organisation Ciclon de Solidarité.

And a community seed-bank is being organised in order to conserve traditional and heirloom seeds as a way of ensuring food security threatened by the introduction of hybrid and genetically modified seeds.

Los Rústicos del Norte is a traditional acoustic music band formed by musicians from the community.

Another community project is the sugar-cane press which was brought back into use after a long period of abandonment. The loaves of unrefined cane sugar save us from having to buy sugar.
